Time Inc., the largest magazine publisher in the US, is to sell subscriptions to 20 of its magazines through Apple's iOS Newsstand app. For a long while, Time has been notable in its absence from Apple's magazine and newspaper store, instead choosing to sell its magazines as single issues through the general App Store. The deal will include Time magazine, Sports Illustrated, People, InStyle, and Entertainment Weekly.
Time Inc. CEO Laura Lang took over in January and, according to the The New York Times, made an Apple deal a top priority. She told the newspaper that tablets were an increasingly important part of the experience, adding that "our goal is to offer content where our consumers want to read it." Eddie Cue, VP of Internet Services at Apple, didn't disclose the exact details of the deal, but said that Time Inc. has signed up under the same terms as other publishers. Time Inc. has updated its apps to reflect the change in policy, and applying the updates will send the iOS app into the Newsstand folder.
