SanDisk is revamping its Extreme Pro microSDHC lineup, adding 8GB and 16GB cards with sequential read speeds up to 95MB/s. The announcement comes more than two months after Samsung announced its own 80MB/s cards, but it looks like SanDisk might have gotten to market first. The 8GB and 16GB cards are available for $59.99 and $99.99, respectively, from SanDisk’s site.
Like their Ultra predecessors, the new red-and-tan Extreme Pros support the Ultra High Speed (UHS–1) interface, letting compatible hardware take advantage of faster transfer speeds than previous-generation cards allowed. While they’ll still work on devices that don’t support the newer interface, you won’t get the same performance, so it’s a good idea to check your device if you’re considering one for an older phone or tablet.
