The Dell Venue Pro has suffered the ignominy of being discontinued in the US, but the Windows Phone hasn't quite been consigned to the annals of history. According to WMPowerUser, the Windows Phone 7.5 Tango refresh is coming to the phone, and a user in Germany has apparently been able to install it successfully. Previously, the Venue Pro ran Mango, and Tango is a relatively incremental update that boosts performance and adds a new location alert icon among other things. For the Venue Pro, the update seemed to work well, but the user reported that the long-broken digital compass remains non-functional. We're still not sure how widespread the update is or whether it will come to customers in the US.

The Venue Pro was one of Dell's few forays into the mobile market, although the company maintains it will be offering new devices in the future. We're not sure what the future holds for the device, or whether it will receive Windows Phone 7.8, but it's good to see at least a token effort at keeping it up to date.

Update: According to WPCentral, US devices can indeed get the update.
