Sony is announcing a web-based front end to its Reader Store ebook market, allowing US and Canadian customers to buy books without having to install Sony’s Reader Library software. While there’s still no way to access your books in the browser a la Kindle Cloud Reader, Sony is announcing an update to its Android app, adding landscape reading, UI improvements, and improved stability. Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t managed to bring an app to iOS since Apple rejected its application last year for not kicking up the requisite 30 percent of in-app ebook sales. Both the web-based store and updated Android app are available now.
