Earlier this year, six Star Wars fans embarked on a journey to restore Lars Homestead, Luke Skywalker's home on Tatooine, which had fallen into a frankly appalling state of disrepair. Mark Dermul, Terry Cooper, Mark Cox, Robert Cunningham, Imanuel Dijk, and Michel Verpoorten raised $11,700 for the project; after several setbacks, they finally received authorization from the National Office of Tunisian Tourism in Tozeur to restore the site. The group then traveled to Tunisia and began restorations in temperatures of up to 122 degrees, rebuilding sections that had fallen into disrepair and repainting Lars Homestead a stunning white that could be seen from 7 kilometers (about 4.3 miles) away. CNET has compiled the best moments of their successful journey with a lovely slideshow, or you can check out the complete diaries, photo albums, and video logs at Save the Lars Homestead — as you can see, the Mos Eisley Cantina still needs some help.
