Just as Apple had suggested a workaround for the iOS hack that allowed users to fraudulently obtain in-app purchases for free, developer Alexey Borodin has modified it to work with OS X apps bought from the Mac App Store. Like the iOS version, this new hack exploits the fact that Apple does not link in-app purchases to a specific customer or device.
The Mac App Store is still in its infancy and so in-app purchasing isn't as prevalent as its mobile counterpart, but it's still a worrying development. Hopefully Apple will develop a new workaround for OS X developers to utilize soon. We've reached out to Apple for comment and will update the article when we hear back.
