MetroTube, a popular Windows Phone YouTube app, is returning to the Marketplace this week — seven months after it was discontinued. The developers behind MetroTube, Lazyworm Apps, revealed the change of heart in a blog postingtoday — explaining that the company has been unable to obtain official support for the app, but that it will return using existing workarounds. Lazyworm originally pulled the app due to these workarounds and that it "couldn't ensure the future of the app."

It's not clear whether there was any official involvement from Google or Microsoft that prompted the original discontinuation, but the return as a free app is designed to generate a response from the community to "justifying the need for Google or Microsoft to show us a little more support," according to the developers. "We don't want to see the project that has consumed a year and half of our lives go to waste like this and so we've decided to re-launch Metrotube for free."

The application has been published to the Marketplace and should start showing up in supported Marketplaces shortly.

Update: it's live! (Thanks to ericrekut for letting us know.)
