Growl updated its desktop app to version 2.0 this week, adding support for Notification Center on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Growl 2.0, released Wednesday, uses Notification Center for visual alerts by default, meaning app developers won't have to rewrite their code for Mountain Lion. The update also adds action display support for iOS apps Boxcar and Prowl, and separates visual displays from action displays, allowing apps to simultaneously launch both from within a single notification.
Today's launch has been in the works for a few months now. Growl CEO Chris Forsythe alluded to Notification Center integration in a blog post earlier this year, followed by the release of the Growl 2.0 SDK in August.
