Google has begun to integrate its Voice product into Google Contacts. The company started rolling out the change in the past 24 hours, with users now able to place calls and send text messages directly from within Google Contacts. Doing so isn’t quite as intuitive as using Google Voice Contacts, however: users need to hover over the phone number that they want and wait for the call and SMS icons to appear.

The move looks to be a way for the search company to simplify the way it handles contacts across its various services. Right now, contacts can be added and edited in multiple products, including Gmail, Google Voice, and Google+, with all the different options presenting their own unique interface. Google has probably realized that it makes much more sense to try and handle contacts in one place as opposed to juggling multiple implementations.
