Whether you like it or not, oversize smartphones are all the rage these days, with companies such as Samsung and Huawei leading the charge. But they may not be the only manufacturers interested in the six-inch-plus smartphone, as a new display component posted to the Chinese-language Digi-wo forum suggests that Sony also has a 6.44-inch smartphone in the works. The image of the alleged Sony component was accompanied by a claim that the screen for this component has 1080p HD resolution, which wouldn't come as much of a surprise if the oversize device is indeed legit.

Of course, without further confirmation, this component could be from a one-off prototype or even a fake, but it's not a stretch to say that Sony is likely interested in releasing a gargantuan smartphone in the near future. The company just recently announced the Xperia Z at CES, giving it an entrant in the 5-inch 1080p smartphone arena already. Whether this alleged new 6.44-inch device turns out to be what Sony has planned to reveal at MWC next month remains to be seen, but we wouldn't be surprised if it was.
