Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Tomb Raider reboot will feature a multiplayer mode built by Deus Ex: Human Revolution developer Eidos Montreal. The Canadian studio was hired to create the mutliplayer game separately, allowing Crystal Dynamics to focus on the single-player experience. A feature in the February issue of Official Xbox Magazine reveals a trio of game modes that will be offered from launch, and one Tomb Raider fan has transcribed the key details in a forum post.
Multiplayer will be more than just a deathmatch
In addition to a relatively standard Team Deathmatch mode, Tomb Raider will also offer "Rescue" and "Cry for Help." In Rescue mode, you'll be able to play as either a survivor or a scavenger. Survivors will be tasked with collecting medpacks and delivering them to on-map locations, while scavengers will be aiming for a high kill count. In the mode, characters will have a "bleed out" time, similar to Gears of War or Borderlands, during which other players will be able to revive their comrades. The exact details of Cry for Help mode aren't clear, but Eurogamer notes that "the emphasis is on discovery and collection as opposed to combat."
The multiplayer modes will offer a roster of characters to pick from — although apparently Lara Croft is not currently selectable — as well as customizable loadouts. There will also be an XP system of sorts that will allow players to unlock more characters and improving stats. Tomb Raider is due for release on March 5th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
