BlackBerry shows off some of its 70,000 new third-party apps, including Skype, Rdio, Kindle, and Whatsapp

As part of today's BlackBerry 10 unveiling, the company is giving us a lot more information on what to expect from the new platform and apps that will run on it. We heard last year that Facebook and Twitter would be ready on day one, but it looks like BlackBerry has a lot more to share — there are 70,000 BlackBerry "launch apps", including a pretty impressive list of high-profile releases. In fact, BlackBerry called it "the largest catalog of at-launch applications for any platform ever" at the top of its event. While time will tell how consumers react to the company's new app store, it certainly looks like the company has learned from Microsoft's difficulties with the Windows Phone platform and is taking the app catalog seriously.

Onscreen during RIM's presentation, we saw Skype and Where's My Water, and BlackBerry just announced Kindle support as well. There's also a notes and tasks app called Reminder which is a first-party BlackBerry offering — but it comes with Evernote integration. Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MLB At Bat, and ESPN Scorecenter are also all ready to go as of today. Particularly noteworthy is the integration of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter directly into the OS. It's also worth noting that Facebook and Twitter were built by BlackBerry and third-party developers, but we don't think that the end user will mind as long as the experience is up to par.

Other social networking apps include the ever-popular Whatsapp — something that competes with BlackBerry's own BBM. Skype and Rdio are two more major apps, though there's no word on Spotify support just yet. There are a bevy of business-focused apps like Cisco Webex, The Economist, and Bloomberg, and cloud storage options from DropBox and Box are both supported.

There's also a wide variety of games, including Angry Birds Star Wars, Plants vs. Zombies, the aforementioned Where's My Water and Where's My Perry, Fruit Ninja, and more. All in all, it's a pretty impressive catalog of both apps and games to launch the new BlackBerry 10 platform — we'll be watching to see how much this helps the BlackBerry relaunch.

four titles from Rovio (Angry Birds and Angry Birds Star Wars are among them), Where's My Water, Where's My Perry, 15 titles from EA (including Plants Vs. Zombies, Real Racing 3, Monopoly Millionaire, and Dead Space), 10 titles from Gameloft (including NOVA3, Asphalt 7, Spider-Man 4, Modern Combat 4, and Batman: The Dark Knight Rises), Jetpack Joyride HD, Fruit Ninja HD, Cut the Rope, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episodes 1 and 2.
