Microsoft has addressed an audio issue with Surface RT in a firmware update issued today. As part of January's Patch Tuesday, the firmware update specifically targets improvements to the audio playback in Connected Standby mode on the device.
The Verge previously reported on early audio issues with the Surface RT, including issues relating audio stuttering and crackling. It appears this has been fixed with the latest update. During tests today, we have confirmed the audio no longer crackles during notifications when the device is not in use. Microsoft has previously issued updates to improve app performance and Wi-Fi issues on the Surface RT, indicating that the company will continue to update and improve its first tablet device in the future.
