The day after Thanksgiving in the US has since the 1960s been known as "Black Friday." Originally coined in Philadelphia to describe heavy car traffic following the holiday's travels, the term has since become synonymous with shopping and bargain basement deals. Over a half-century later, things have only escalated, with Black Friday 2013 promising to be the earliest yet, as some stores began opening their doors literally on Thanksgiving night.
