The new feature was first spotted by TechCrunch yesterday, and while Facebook initially described it as a test, the company has apparently since confirmed that the web / mobile chat status is currently being rolled out globally. It's not something that's going to change the way you use Facebook, but it's a helpful addition that should offer a better sense of just how available your friends are, and what type of conversation you can expect. As chat apps continue to soar in popularity, Facebook has been hard at work on its messaging product in recent weeks, rolling out a revamped Messenger app. As is the case with most new Facebook features, it may take some time before you start seeing the new indicator.
