While J.J. Abrams has recently taken the Star Trek mythos to new heights on the big screen, there hasn't been a new series on television for more than seven years. Star Trek: Renegades seems poised to change all that. After raising more than $200,000 on Kickstarter and Indigogo, the pilot is currently in post-production, with a slated release date for summer or fall of 2014. The first trailer, released this week, is just a taste of what's to come.

The pilot is the work of the team behind the fan-created miniseries Star Trek: Of Gods and Men. It will star Walter Koenig and Tim Russ, reprising their roles as Chekov and Tuvok, respectively. According to the team's website, the series promises to be "bold, edgy and a little dark." We're not sure if that means Battlestar Galactica dark, but hopefully it's a little edgier than Voyager.
