Paul Rudd, who can already be seen in the newly released Anchorman 2, is reportedly in negotiations to play the lead role in Marvel's Ant-Man, due out in 2015. According to Variety, Rudd may soon play Dr. Hank Pym, who uses subatomic particles to alter his size and adopt the Ant-Man persona (and several other superpowered alter egos over the years).

Shawn of the Dead director Edgar Wright is already at the helm, so viewers can expect a fun sensibility around the film's treatment of the character. Marvel even released a brief trailer at San Diego Comic Con last year showing Ant-Man in action. If Rudd can do for the character what Robert Downey, Jr did for Tony Stark, then fans have every reason to be excited. It's just too bad he won't have anything to do with Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Update: Marvel has confirmed that Paul Rudd will take the lead in Ant-Man when the film makes its debut on July 31st, 2015.

Update 1/13: A previous version of this post stated that Paul Rudd was confirmed to play Dr. Hank Pym. That was inaccurate. Marvel today announced that Michael Douglas has been cast in the role of Hank Pym, with Paul Rudd playing Scott Lang, the second Ant-Man.
