Amazon sold more Kindles between Black Friday and Cyber Monday than ever, the company announced today. That's no surprise: Amazon has announced record Thanksgiving weekend Kindle sales for the last three years without ever saying how many Kindles it's sold.

In 2011, Amazon announced it had the "Best Black Friday Ever for Kindle Family." In 2012, "Worldwide Kindle Device Sales More Than Double Last Year’s Record Over Holiday Shopping Weekend." And 2013, just "Record Holiday Shopping Weekend for Kindle."

The company did say that the Kindle Fire HDX 7" and Kindle Fire HD were the best-selling items on Amazon.com over the weekend, but we still have no idea how many units.

To be fair, we don't know how many iPads sold over the weekend, either. But Amazon has never released numbers for the sales of its Kindle devices, even to its stockholders. "We have a long history of not giving out those types of numbers," a representative told The Verge in an email.
