Telltale Games, the studio behind the award-winning video game based on The Walking Dead, has said that it will give the same treatment to HBO's fantasy epic Game of Thrones. The news confirms a rumor reported by IGN last month. As with other Telltale releases such as The Walking Dead and the recently released The Wolf Among Us, the Game of Thrones title will be an episodic series, and is said to start in 2014.
Telltale says it's working with HBO on the game series, suggesting it will bear more similarity to the TV show than George R. R. Martin's original A Song of Ice and Fire books. "We'll be taking advantage of all the fiction to make something great," said Telltale CEO Dan Connors during the announcement at the VGX 2013 awards show. "We're just really getting into it right now and thinking about characters — who has the most at stake, who has the biggest impact on the world."
It's TRUE! We're working with @HBO to create an all-new episodic game series based on GAME OF THRONES in 2014! #VGX pic.twitter.com/d5GkhS2MOw

Telltale's effort isn't the first to be based on the smash hit series — a mediocre action RPG was released last year, and a free-to-play MMO is in the works — but the developer's proven formula of interactive, character-driven storytelling may well be the best fit.
