Netflix has made it clear it has big plans for original content in 2013, and the company has just kicked things off with the release of season one of House of Cards. Starring Kevin Spacey, the 13 episodes were produced by David Fincher, who also directed the first two. Netflix is making the entire first season available simultaneously, a pattern it began with Lilyhammer and will be continuing with the rest of its original programming this year — a slate that includes Eli Roth's Hemlock Grove and a new season of Arrested Development.
With a budget of $100 million, Cards is an undertaking unlike anything Netflix has attempted before — but it's a gamble CEO Reed Hastings believes could be a "defining moment in the development of Internet TV." House of Cards is available for streaming now exclusively from Netflix.
