"Mostly I saw myself looking back. A gelatinous version of me, anyway, full of rage and empty calories. I was hiding in the car as they marched by. He looked up at me, as if he knew. As if he had my memories and recognized the car. We looked eyes - or what I at least think were his eyes, it's kind of hard to tell, he was admittedly a bit deformed and didn't come out as 1-to-1 as I had maybe thought. He never let on to his troops. He just kept marching. As soon as the coast was clear, I turned on the ignition and sped away."
