As we move ever closer to all-digital film production, the film reel is becoming a rarer sight in modern movie theaters. In an attempt to evoke the nostalgia associated with traditional film, Austrian photographer Reiner Riedler accessed the archives of major film museum Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin, selecting a mix of popular and cult films — which include The Godfather, Ghosts, Scarface and Citizen Kane — for his new project, titled The Unseen Seen. Riedler then photographed the reels by installing film lights behind them, generating a unique and vivid set of photos that he hopes will recall images from a viewer's memory and help associate the colors with the overall tone of the film, generating new emotions from movies of old.
