Microsoft appears to be readying two-factor authentication for access to its accounts system. LiveSide reports that the security enhancement is being prepared alongside a new authenticator app for Windows Phone. Similar to Google and Apple's systems, Microsoft's two-factor authentication appears to work with codes generated by the app. Two-factor authentication systems traditionally work as a secondary way to secure an account to prevent password theft.

LiveSide says the system will not work with Microsoft Accounts that are linked to each other, however, meaning users will need to unlink multiple acconts. With the authenticator app already available in the Windows Phone Store, this two-factor authentication system appears to be imminent.
