- Randy Grubb is a graduate from the University of Southern California who made his living as a fine artist making blown glass pieces before turning to automotive art. As you might have noticed, his strengths lie in aluminum fabrication and this is his latest project — the Decoson.
- The Decoson is a repurposed 1984 Harley-Davidson Sportster fitted with a contoured Art Deco-style aluminum body. Grubb was able to make his concept a reality after meeting a motorhead willing to supply the bike and commission the build. "The Decoson turned out just as I envisioned,” says Randy.
- Grubb's past creations include the Decoliner and two DecoPods — the Bi-Pod and Tri-Pod. Another of his custom vehicles — The Blastolene Special — was bought by Jay Leno for $125,000 and also featured in Sony's popular PlayStation racing title 'Gran Turismo 4'.
- The Decoson takes its name and aesthetics from Grubb's Decoliner, an aeronautical and nautical-themed RV.
- To build the motorcycle, much of the original chassis had to be modified, including the handle bars, which have been moved inside the body. This means you have to reach inside the body to steer it.
- Randy Grubb documents every one of his custom projects on his website 'Randy Grubb's Garage.' He also offers video tours of his workshop and details his build processes — episodes one and two can be found here and here.
