What is J.J. Abrams teasing with Bad Robot's new mystery trailer?

Bad Robot, the production company founded by geek culture hitmaker J.J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Alias, etc.), has released a mysterious new trailer titled "Stranger." The creepy and inscrutable video spot, posted by the official Bad Robot Twitter account this afternoon, features (in no particular oder): 1.) a starry sky 2.) a long-haired, rope-bound man wandering along a desolate monochromatic shore line 3.) and your garden variety, horrifying, stitched-mouth person coming into focus. "Men are erased and reborn," intones a narrator that sounds a little like Leonard Nimoy.

Nobody is sure yet what the trailer's for — a new movie? a TV series? — and Bad Robot isn't talking. But the production company has been busy lately: last month it acquired the rights to late Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling's final script, The Steps Along The Way. It seems unlikely they would rush something out based on that property so fast, but at this point, it's anybody's guess what "Stranger" is.
