Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm is already leading to a new trilogy of Star Wars films and an animated series, and it appears a live-action television show could be next. Reuters reports that the president of ABC Entertainment Group, Paul Lee, stated that ABC is in early discussions with Lucasfilm about bringing such a project to life. "We've started conversations with them," Lee said Sunday during the Television Critics Association press tour.

Disney has moved quickly to capitalize on the seminal property, first announcing Star Wars Episode VII — which JJ Abrams has since signed on to direct — and then halting further production on the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The strategy appears to be to first clear the palette for current fans, and then essentially relaunch the Star Wars universe with a new set of shows and films. While it's clear we won't be seeing the live-action show right away — Lee admitted that he has "an inkling in my mind, but they have a lot on their plate" — we'll be able to see what a television version of a big Disney-owned property looks like later this year when Marvel's Agents of SHIELD debuts. Of course, whether a Star Wars TV show will have someone like Joss Whedon to shepherd it along is another question entirely.
