Verizon’s Redbox Instant streaming video and DVD rental service is coming to the Roku family of set-top boxes. The company announced today that anyone with a recent Roku player (2, 3, HD, LT, or Streaming Stick) will be able to stream some 5,500 movies and reserve physical discs (680 titles) for pickup at Redbox’s signature kiosks. The service runs $8 a month, or $9 if you want Blu-rays.

The announcement adds to Redbox's existing stable of supported platforms, including iOS, Android, the Xbox 360, and LG and Samsung smart TVs. We took a look at Redbox Instant in March and found that the selection was a little lackluster, but your mileage may vary. If you want to see what’s on offer before dropping any cash on the service, Verizon is offering a one-month free trial — just check the New section of the Roku Channel Store to get set up.
