PlayStation 4 owners won't need a PlayStation Plus subscription to record and share their gameplay clips online. A day after Microsoft revealed that its own Game DVR for Xbox One will be available exclusively to paid Xbox Live Gold customers, Sony has taken the opposite path. The confirmation comes courtesy of Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, who in a series of tweets made it clear that gameplay recording will be enabled for all PS4 owners when the console ships later this fall.

That's good news for prospective buyers who may not immediately be interested in Sony's subscription service. But seeing as Plus will be required for nearly all online multiplayer (potentially excluding some free-to-play titles), it seems a matter of when, not if gamers ultimately sign up for a membership.
