Variety reports that Amazon has signed up a number of actresses including Cynthia Nixon and Amy Sedaris for its new web series Alpha House. The show is part of Amazon Originals, the company's equivalent of Netflix Original, Netflix's push to create HBO-quality content for streaming. While Netflix Original has produced acclaimed shows like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, Amazon's public pilot program was not well received. Alpha House, however, was greenlit as one of the best (or perhaps least bad) efforts, and is being made into a full series.

Alpha House is best described as a political buddy comedy, starring John Goodman as one of four United States senators who live together in a house. The new additions to the cast are Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City's Miranda), Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy), Julie White (Go On), and stand-up comedienne / actress Wanda Sykes. They'll all play supporting roles, with Nixon and Sykes cast as senators and Sedaris and White playing senator's wives. The show is already being filmed, and is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Instant Video later this year.
