Louis C.K. has poked fun at cell phone addiction before, most notably in his famous "Everything's Amazing and Nobody's Happy" rant — but on Conan this week, he went further, letting loose a rant about how being constantly tethered to cell phones is making people less reflective, less emphathetic, and just generally worse. "I think these things are toxic, especially for kids," C.K. said. "You need to build an ability to just be yourself and not do anything. That's what the phone is taking away is the ability to just sit there. That's being a person."
It's a topic that's been considered before, especially as younger children gravitate towards smartphones and tablets, but C.K.'s rant went beyond children, joking about how we use the connection of technology to stave off the basic sadness of life. "You never feel completely sad or completely happy, you just feel kinda satisfied with your product. And then you die."
