Stickers have become all the rage on instant messaging apps like Line, and are increasing in popularity within social networks like Path and Facebook. So what makes these oversized emoticons any different from the emojis of old? In a profile of several sticker pack creators, The Next Web reports that stickers are seeing a much heavier focus on design than emojis ever did, with artists toiling over how to clearly express an emotion through a single frame. "The [sticker] should be intuitive and be very clear in terms of what it is trying to express," artist Hye-ji Yoon tells TNW. "I try to focus on the meticulous details of ... facial expressions and body gestures, instead of including other props or items in the stickers."
