Robin Wright has been awarded the Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama for her work in House of Cards. Wright, most recently spotted at CES advocating the use of conflict-free minerals, plays the ambitious wife of grasping politician Frank Underwood — played by Kevin Spacey — in the Netflix series. The award is the first Golden Globe to go to a Netflix original show, coming after the streaming service's Emmy win last September.

Wright faced stiff competition for the prize, up against a set of top actresses that included Taylor Schilling, the star of fellow Netflix original show Orange is the New Black. Wright arrived on stage without a speech, but thanked director David Fincher — who directed the first two episodes of House of Cards — for convincing her to take the part of Claire Underwood. The director apparently told Wright that she "could create her."
