Microsoft’s Xbox One console focused on entertainment and gaming during its launch in November, but it never shipped with a remote control for its new TV features. It appears Microsoft is planning to address the lack of a compatible Xbox One remote with an upcoming accessory release. Amazon’s Canadian site briefly listed an Xbox One ‘Media Remote’ recently, with pre-order details and a release date scheduled for March 4th.
Although Amazon has since removed the listing, it’s still accessible through Google Cache and shows the accessory may debut for around $24.99 in Canada ($22.70 US). While there have been a variety of Xbox 360 remote controls, Microsoft appears to be preparing a basic model for the Xbox One. The Xbox-branded remote on Amazon has navigation, volume, and playback controls, but there doesn’t appear to be much more. As Amazon has removed the listing, it’s not clear if this is a genuine accessory or whether it was listed in error. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment on the Media Remote, and we’ll update you accordingly.
Update: A Microsoft spokesperson says “we are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but don’t have anything to share at this time.”
