The insane, physics-defying new tracks of 'Mario Kart 8'

The laws of gravity no longer apply here

The Wii U needs help, and that help is coming soon — May 30th will see the long-awaited release of Mario Kart 8, quite possibly Nintendo's most popular series after Pokemon. The kart racer introduces a handful of changes to the well-worn formula, including a new anti-gravity mode that allows for some truly crazy new track designs.

If you thought Rainbow Road was tough before, you haven't seen anything yet. There's also new vehicles to drive, new characters to play as, and useful new items. You'll be able to read our review of the game on Thursday, but in the meantime check out the gallery below to see some of the new additions — there's even a way to defend against blue shells now. It's about time.
