Netflix's take on the blind Marvel superhero Daredevil has cast its leading role. Charlie Cox, known for playing Owen Sleater, the Irish enforcer with IRA ties in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, is set to don the suit of lawyer Matt Murdock and the costume of his crime-fighting alter-ego. Cox also starred as Tristan Thorn in the 2007 movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

The show originally had Cloverfield and Lost writer Drew Goddard on board as showrunner, but he has now been replaced by Spartacus creator Steven DeKnight after signing on to direct Spider-Man spinoff Sinister Six. Cox, for his part, will have his own shoes to fill — those of Ben Affleck, who played the title role in the critically panned 2003 Daredevil movie.
The news comes after another high-profile Marvel project, the upcoming Ant-Man movie, saw upheaval in a top creative role. Director Edgar Wright parted ways with Marvel due to "differences in their vision of the film," the two parties announced last week.
