But it's a Gamestop exclusive

If you're in the market for a 3DS (and just can't wait until the new and improved versions) Nintendo has something retro just for you. The company has just revealed an NES-themed version of the 3DS XL, which will be available on October 10th for $199.99, though the device will be exclusive to Gamestop. This isn't the first time Nintendo has mined the past for new versions of its handhelds: the Gameboy SP was released with a similar color scheme, while the Gameboy Micro was available in a slick, limited edition Famicom variant. The new 3DS XL isn't quite as memorable as those two devices, but it's still a decent play at nostalgia.

Nintendo also revealed two other versions of the 3DS XL as well, both based on upcoming games. There's a red Super Smash Bros. handheld that will launch on September 19th, just a few weeks before the much anticipated new game, and a blue Persona Q-themed 3DS, which will be available on November 25th. Curiously, neither of those devices will be bundled with the game they're promoting.
