Microsoft is expanding its preview of Office for Android tablets today, allowing anyone to download the software from Google Play. While the company previously released an invite-only preview version late last year, today’s expansion lets Android tablet users running KitKat or Lollipop access the software before a final version is available early this year.
Office for Android tablets is almost identical to Office for iPad in terms of user interface and features. Microsoft is only supporting tablets between 7 and 10.1 inches, and ones that are ARM-based, but that’s the majority of existing Android tablets covered. The final apps will be available for free as part of Microsoft’s mobile Office plans, alongside support to save and access Dropbox documents.
