New trailers: The X-Files, Marvel's Jessica Jones, The Revenant, and more

All the shows and movies you should be looking out for

6

October is kind of going to be a crazy month for movies. The Martian is out today, Steve Jobs is out next week, Room is out the week after that, and that's not even getting into the spooky, end-of-October films. Plus, Netflix's first movie comes out later this month. Oh, and three films — including one that I'm really, really into — with trailers below are coming out this month, too. Basically, clear your calendars. There's gonna be a lot to watch.

The X-Files

Fox is bringing back Mulder and Scully for a six-episode X-Files miniseries. Footage from the revival finally started coming out this week, but you'll have to wait a bit longer for the show's actual return. It'll arrive next year on January 24th — you can expect a lot more X-Files nostalgia and excitement before then.

Marvel's Jessica Jones

Netflix's next Marvel series is Jessica Jones, and it's arriving soon. Its latest teasers finally show some actual footage from the show, and while they're short, they're pretty effective when it comes to getting across what the series' tone will be: tough, unforgiving, and pretty fun. The full first season is out November 20th.

The Revenant

This looks 100 percent nuts, and I mean that in the best of all possible ways. Literally a bear starts to eat Leonardo DiCaprio. The Revenant comes from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who won best picture at the Oscars last year for Birdman, which was equally nuts but in a very, very different way. So yeah, check this out, unless you don't like insane things and the wilderness. It's out on Christmas Day, which seems like a totally normal time for this kind of film.

Burnt

This is the second trailer I've watched for Burnt, and I still can't say that I have the slightest idea what the actual plot of this movie is. That said, it looks alright! There's beautiful food. There's lots of drama. There's Bradley Cooper. And someone mentions "culinary orgasms." It should be good. It's out October 23rd.

The Assassin

Here's the latest trailer for The Assassin, the totally gorgeous martial arts movie that I am totally flipping out about. It's about a woman who was abducted as a child returning to where she came from with instructions to kill the man she would have been forced to marry. It looks amazing. It sounds amazing. It's out in the US on October 16th.

Meadowland

Meadowland is about a couple whose young son goes missing and how they go on to deal with the loss. There isn't a lot said verbally in this trailer, but there's a ton of crystal clear emotion flying through it. It looks like a film filled with great acting and great visuals. It's supposed to enter theaters October 16th.

Hitchcock/Truffaut

Are you a film nerd? Click play. You will not be disappointed.

A Bigger Splash

I don't know what's going on here, but it looks cool. There are gorgeous hillsides, an amazing pool, and that sick shot of Tilda Swinton's outfit blowing out in the wind. The movie has something to do with a former rockstar, an old flame, and shit getting crazy, as movies tend to. It's out February 12th.

Love

You may know director Gaspar Noé from Irréversible, his brutal 2002 film about a rape. He's back with another film this year called Love, which debuted at Cannes to mixed reviews — albeit reviews that felt strongly one way or the other. This trailer doesn't present any nudity, but the film is already infamous for the amount of graphic sex in it. Also, it's in 3D. The movie comes comes out online November 6th, and it'll be in some theaters about a week before that.
