Luc Besson announced on Instagram today that Rihanna will have "a big part" in his upcoming sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. This is the singer's third film role after a small part in the brand-activation misfire Battleship and doing voice work for the Dreamworks animated movie Home (which is about aliens!).

Valerian was announced in May with Cara Delevigne (of Paper Towns, the upcoming Suicide Squad, and Taylor Swift's friend circle) and Dane DeHaan (the most recent on-screen Green Goblin) slated to star. The film is based on a French graphic novel set in the 28th century and centered around the discovery of time travel.

Fans of The Fifth Element should be excited that Besson is back to building massive sci-fi worlds for the big screen. Fans of his most recent work, Lucy, should think for a minute about the fact that the movie ends with the line, and this is not a joke, "Life was given to us a billion years ago. Now you know what you can do with it."
