Sherlock's Victorian-era special has been on the horizon for a few months now, and its newest trailer is proof that a move to the 19th century isn't going to slow down 221B Baker Street's current inhabitants one bit. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are in their usual fine form as the titular Dr. Holmes and Watson, and it's initially unsettling to see them in the world Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived in when he created the series in the first place. Policemen wield whistles instead of guns and cellphones; London's streets are jammed with horse-drawn buggies and men on foot, not cars and trucks; Watson's face is being weighed down by a beastly mustache.

Underneath those cosmetic changes, it feels like the same old contemporary Sherlock: the pace is brisk, the stakes are high, and Cumberbatch is colder than a top-of-the-line icebox. The special's set to land on the BBC, PBS, and selected theater screens sometime in the near future — there's no exact date other than "soon" — and the show's full fourth season will start filming next year.
