New trailers: The Force Awakens, Captain America: Civil War, The Big Short, and more

All the shows and movies you should be looking out for

I know. It's Black Friday, the family is still together from Thanksgiving, and you're probably more interested in what movies you can all watch together right now, not several months from now. Don't worry, we've got that covered: here are 12 movies you can stream this weekend, 12 TV shows you can binge on this weekend, and 12 movies you can head out to the theater for. But if that's not enough and you want to see all of the movies coming up ahead, have at it. There are nine trailers down below.

Captain America: Civil War

Marvel is already starting to tease its next massive superhero film, Captain America: Civil War, and this one may turn out to be its most interesting in a while. The film is about the government trying to keep superheroes in check, rather than letting them continue to exist as crime-fighting vigilantes. Captain America and Iron Man end up on different sides of the argument, and this trailer starts to show what happens when the two of them disagree. It's out May 6th.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

We've been counting down the days until a new Star Wars film for three years, and now that it's just weeks away… it all feels like it's arrived so fast. We're in that period right before a movie's release when a glut of footage is put out online in order to stoke excitement. It's easy to just feel so done with a movie after watching a bunch of them, but that really isn't happening yet with The Force Awakens. This new teaser focuses on the dark side, and it's as thrilling as anything we've seen yet. It's out December 18th

The Big Short

I feel like there's sort of an odd pacing to this trailer, but that's not really all that relevant, because The Big Short still looks super interesting. The film is basically Moneyball for the housing crash, with a bunch of weird dudes catching the issue ahead of time and figuring out what may be a way to make big bucks off of it. It's out next month, expanding wide on December 23rd.

Degrassi: Next Class

Netflix loves to rescue TV shows, and its latest pickup is Degrassi. A new installment of the endless high school drama arrives January 15th. It's not as fancy as most of the shows you're used to seeing on Netflix, but keep in mind this is going after a different audience than House of Cards.

Grease: Live

Wait. Carly Rae Jepsen is in a live production of Grease on Fox? Alright. It's happening January 31st.

Darkest Before Dawn

Pusha T's new album comes out December 18th, and a short film of the same name is coming out along with it. A first look at that film, Darkest Before Dawn, came out this week — it's appropriately dark, with gorgeous bursts of light shining through it at every turn.

Legends of Tomorrow

DC has a new superhero series coming to the CW. Legends of Tomorrow is about a group of superheroes who travel through time to stop villains when and wherever they're popping up — it basically sounds like a superhero Doctor Who. I think, at least; I've never actually seen Doctor Who and only know as much about Legends of Tomorrow as this trailer has told me. It starts January 21st.

The Secret Life of Pets

There's not all that much to look at in this new trailer for The Secret Life of Pets, but if you aren't sold on how nice the animation is, just hang around until it rolls the credits. There's some serious talent behind this move. It's out next summer.

Arabian Nights

As a giant title card in this trailer will tell you, Arabian Nights is not an adaptation of the classic Arabian Nights. I really have no idea what it is, but it's definitely the weirdest and most interesting trailer out this week. Arabian Nights has been touring film festivals this year and is now headed into a theater in New York. It's a three parter, so you'll have to come back three weeks in a row to see the entire thing.
