Rock Band is coming to virtual reality in 2016. At the Game Awards, Palmer Luckey and Harmonix announced that they'd been working on the game together for "a really long time," and from what we can tell, Rock Band VR is exactly what it sounds like: an immersive virtual reality take on the beloved series, where you're playing guitar and looking out on a crowd of fans through the Oculus Rift.

Harmonix already announced one virtual reality project: Harmonix Music VR, a music visualization experience for Sony's PlayStation VR. But this is more of an investment, and one of the biggest names to come to any headset so far — one we got a hint of earlier this year, when the first official slate of Rift games was announced.

We still don't know precisely when the Rift itself is coming out, but Luckey confirmed that it's still the first quarter of next year. The catalog is still being announced, but it so far includes games from EVE Online studio CCP and Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac, among others.
