Cary Fukunaga, who directed the entire first season of True Detective, has found a new television project — and yes, it's about murder. Fukunaga is teaming up with True Detective producer Anonymous Content to create a series based off The Alienist, a 1994 Caleb Carr crime novel that has Theodore Roosevelt investigate gruesome murders during the "Gilded Age of New York City" (around 1896). Seems like a perfect fit.
The show will be written by Hossein Amini (Drive), who also wrote the pilot. Academy Award winning writer Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) will executive producer along with Fukunaga, Amini, and Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin. No casting, network, or timing details have been revealed.
Police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt hunting a serial killer in 1890s New York City... sorry, I just had to reiterate that.
