Punxsatawney Phil is heading to Broadway. According to The Wall Street Journal, 1993 Bill Murray classic Groundhog Day is being turned into a musical that will make its debut in New York in 2017. Danny Rubin, who co-wrote the original screenplay with director and immortal Ghostbuster Harold Ramis, has been tapped to write the book while Australian comedian and musician Tim Minchin will write the music and lyrics.
No one has been cast as Phil Connors or Rita Hanson yet, but the musical's opening night is currently scheduled for March 9th, 2017. We just hope they get the sheer existential terror right, even with the singing and dancing.
