Sophie Turner — the British actress who portrays Game of Thrones' Sansa Stark — is swapping medieval-style fantasy for mutant sci-fi. Turner is set to play powerful psychic Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, appearing for the first time alongside fellow mutant Jubilee, played by Lana Condor, in a picture shared on director Bryan Singer's Instagram account.
It's been reported that the new movie, which follows X-Men: First Class and last year's Days of Future Past, is at least partially set in 1983, and Singer looks keen to evoke the fashion of the era. The first pictures of teleporting mutant Nightcrawler appeared earlier this week, showing the blue-skinned mutant sporting a clothing combo that Michael J. Fox's Teen Wolf might wear. Condor and Turner also sport period-appropriate dress in the new snapshot, making both Jean Grey and Jubilee — in her signature yellow jacket — look like they've just stepped out from an '80s disco at Professor X's famous school for the gifted.
The movie, due out in May next year, will also introduce younger versions of X-Men mainstays Storm and Cyclops, alongside less well-known mutants such as Olivia Munn's Psylocke. Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor Oscar Isaac has also signed on to play titular villain Apocalypse.
