Rihanna is now the most successful artist in terms of single downloads and streams, according to new figures from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In a press release published this week, the RIAA announced that Rihanna has accumulated more than 100 million gold and platinum song certifications, making her the only artist to ever break the 100 million singles award mark. The singer received 48 million new digital single certifications today, launching her to number one on the RIAA's list of digital single awards, though Taylor Swift (88 million) and Katy Perry (78 million) are not far behind. The RIAA counts both downloads and streams in calculating its certifications.
The announcement coincides with the release of a cinematic new video for Rihanna's single "Bitch Better Have My Money." In the NSFW video, released yesterday, Rihanna kidnaps and tortures a woman in order to extract money from her partner (identified as "the bitch" in the video), and then spends most of the time partying and doing drugs.
Correction July 2nd, 6:17AM ET: Corrected to reflect that the kidnapped woman's partner, not the woman herself, apparently owes Rihanna money.
