Watch the new trailer for Amy Schumer's HBO comedy special

The Chris Rock-directed Live at the Apollo premieres October 17th

Between the heaps of praise levied on her Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer and the stellar box office performance of Trainwreck, Amy Schumer has had an incredible year — but that doesn't mean she's leaving stand-up behind. Schumer's first big break involved making a run on Last Comic Standing, and she's returning to her roots for a new HBO stand-up special directed by Chris Rock. (Yes, that Chris Rock.) Mashable premiered a new trailer for the special this afternoon, one that captures Schumer in fine form and dissecting some of her favorite topics: sex, sexism, and the soothing powers of white wine.

Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo has been in the works for a while: it was announced and filmed back in May, and a teaser trailer was released in August. It's not Schumer's only October gig, either: she's hosting the second episode of Saturday Night Live's 41st season on October 10th. Live at the Apollo should make for an entertaining Saturday night watch, even for viewers who weren't huge Trainwreck fans: freed from cheesy romantic subplots and run-ins with LeBron James, Schumer will be able to cut sharp, deep, and often. (No word on whether or not she'll return to the Apollo as a hologram someday.)

The special's set to air on HBO on October 17th at 10PM ET.
