Netflix's first real foray into original filmmaking, Beasts of No Nation, arrives next month, and it promises to be a gripping, intense war drama. Starring Idris Elba and child actor Abraham Attah, the film follows a young boy caught in the midst of a civil war in his country and forced to become a child soldier.
True Detective director Cary Fukunaga shot the film, and it has already received honors at multiple film festivals this year. Netflix very likely has Academy Awards hope for this effort. This is only the beginning, though. The streaming service has a whole slate of films on the way, including Adam Sandler's The Ridiculous Six in December and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend early next year. Beasts of No Nation hits Netflix and select theaters on October 16th.
