Have you ever wondered what the perfect Instagram would look like? Did you imagine that the key components would be pastels, Prince, bathtubs, cats, leotards, heart-shaped sunglasses, mirrors, primroses, balloons, neon lighting, Beyoncé, triangles, and tasteful nudity?
You are so correct!
Michele Bisaillon, a 28-year-old artist based in Silicon Valley, is responsible for this nearly perfect summation of modern internet aesthetics. Half nostalgia and half meme, the account is also sad, silly, and philosophical in equal doses. I imagine that these photos are what Drake's dreams look like when he eats chocolate before bed.
Bisaillon tells Dazed that she was inspired by David Bowie's Labyrinth, Michael Jackson, The Wizard of Oz, '90s nostalgia, and of course, the collision of technology and nature in Silicon Valley. As for the tonal variety of the snapshots, Bisaillon says, "There are times when I have a specific message or thought I'd like to share; other times I want to cheer myself up by making something cute or silly. Usually the pictures I take of my cat are made to make myself feel better or escape from seriousness."
Bisaillon owns "40 or 50" mirrors, if you were curious. So recreating her aesthetic would be quite the commitment. But don't worry! All you need in order to enjoy and appreciate her work is an acute feeling of melancholy that can be massaged into tolerability by a nice cat and some bubble wrap.
Time to listen to "Pure Imagination" and make your pet a cup of hot chocolate!
