Minor spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens follow.
Brienne of Tarth fans might have been pretty disappointed to see Gwendoline Christie's metal-plated stormtrooper, Captain Phasma, get such a limited role in The Force Awakens. While it seemed she was destined for death by trash compactor after being captured by Finn and company on the Star Killer base, Christie now says that's not the case.
The Game of Thrones star told People that she'll be returning for Star Wars: Episode VIII when it comes out in December 2017. The confirmation came during the Screen Actors' Guild Awards on Saturday, when she said, "I will be in the next Star Wars movie." She added that she had been "very overexcited" for the role in The Force Awakens.
"I will be in the next Star Wars movie."
"I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time," she said. "And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man."
She was also quite taken with the distinctive armor: "I thought the costume was incredibly striking. I also just liked this notion of a female stormtrooper." Hopefully it — and Gwendoline Christie — will get a bit more screen time in Episode VII.
